null,Munich-based fitness software supplier eGym has developed an intelligent training programme for people with type II diabetes.
The programme, which will officially launch at FIBO in April, is based on research findings that the optimal training for type II diabetes patients should feature a high number of repetitions and work all major muscle groups over long periods of time.
The new software uses eGym’s training system, which creates a bespoke programme for the user and incorporates the principle of periodisation – regular strength tests and automatic progression.
eGym partnered with the University of Leipzig to test the programme’s efficacy – observing 23 patients with type II diabetes over six months. During this time the participants worked out with the programme two to three times a week. At the end of the study, researchers observed a significant reduction in the participants’ blood glucose levels. Nine of them experienced such a dramatic reduction in glucose levels, that they were no longer classified as diabetic.
Kerstin Obenauer, country director for eGym UK, says: “We’re excited to bring this product to the market. Diabetes is estimated to affect more than four million people in the UK, and this figure is on the rise.
“By developing this programme, we can help operators achieve measurable health results for a much wider proportion of the population.”
