Swansea's new LC leisure centre has launched its new Surf Rider system with a display from a number of top surfing professionals.
The machine, supplied by Glasgow-based Murphys Waves, creates a surf stream which provides indoor waves at a range of speeds for both boogie boarding and stand up surfing.
Its installation at the £32m facility is part of a move by not-for-profit LC operators, Bay Leisure and water park design and fit company, Euro Pools to create the UK's first indoor surf centre.
The Surf Rider is reported to be the first surf machine to work on a 'deep water' basis, as opposed to simply shooting shallow water across the surface.
Waves are created by four pumps projecting water towards the surfboard at three different levels of speed - beginner, intermediate and pro.
Air is then pumped into an adjustable 'hump' underneath the board, which increases the size of the wave according to individual ability.
The system is only one of the attractions at the LC's The Edge waterpark, with visitors also able to experience the Master Blaster, a lagoon pool, a lazy river and an interactive fun pool for toddlers.
Elsewhere at LC is a multi-purpose sports and exhibition hall; Wales' biggest fitness arena, featuring 180 items of Technogym kit; two aerobic studios; a spa; a poolside cafe; a 4-storey Playzone; party and function rooms and a 9m climbing wall.
