Smooving the way for pay tv
17 Mar 2004 . BY
Winner of the Hostec-EurHotec sector of the New Product Awards at Hotelympia was an innovative tool from Airwave Europe.

The Smoovie Pay TV system is a small handheld device that can be purchased through vending machines or a hotel reception desk and gives guests 24 hours access to in-room pay tv, with the option of two movies and two adult movies.

When the 24 hours is up, the remote resets itself to the RC 5 code of the Philips tv range and can be taken away and used to operate a Philips tv at home.

The system has been developed by Airwave Europe in conjunction with Philips and will work with all the company’s iTV sets from 2003 build and as a ‘retro’ activation to most iTV sets from 1998.

Smoovie also provides a major marketing opportunity since it can be branded with the hotel logo, web address or phone number and is designed as a key ring.
