Pace Gallery’s new Manhattan headquarters is set to open its doors on 14 September.

Designed by New York-based architecture firm Bonetti/Kozerski (B/K), and situated on 540 West 25th Street in Chelsea, the 75,000 sq ft (6,967 sq m) flagship will boast a volcanic stone façade and feature five new indoor and outdoor galleries, a library, and a performance hall.

Once open, the space, which is being developed by Weinberg Properties, will also showcase installations of new work by a variety of contemporary artists, including Alexander Calder, Loie Hollowell, and David Hockney.

Additionally, the renovated building – erstwhile part of a trucking terminal – will house five of Fred Wilson’s Murano glass chandeliers, all of which will be displayed in the seventh-floor exhibition room.

Lighting for the gallery was installed and choreographed by Isometrix Lighting Design, who previously designed fixtures for Pace's Hong Kong centre.

Speaking on the overall design, B/K said: “We were challenged to re-evaluate the gallery paradigm, both in terms of building and gallery design, whilst being supported to make in-depth studies into materiality, natural and artificial light, as well as building construction technologies.

"The result is a project that reflects our close collaboration with both Weinberg Properties and Pace, and a structure that will further enhance the burgeoning Chelsea neighborhood – with a strong street and skyline presence, materials that will age gracefully, and a variety of dynamic indoor and outdoor spaces for people to experience and be inspired by art from around the world.”
