North America's first spokeless Ferris Wheel is a new ride at Mega Parc in Quebec
Canada’s Méga Parc has reopened following a multi-million dollar steampunk-themed redevelopment that includes the building of North America’s first spokeless Ferris Wheel.

The Quebec park – situated at Les Galeries de la Capitale shopping destination – is the second largest amusement park in Canada, and has 18 rides and experiences, 14 of which are brand new, four restored from before the redevelopment. Added spice is given to the Zénith Ferris Wheel, with another ride – the 40-foot high CloudCoaster – running right through it.

Major construction has been undertaken over the last year on Méga Parc, which was originally built in the 1980s. Owners Oxford Properties Group enlisted the services of Extreme Engineering on creating the new elements of the attraction.

Additional features include the Patinarium ‒ a 750-foot ice skating circuit which runs throughout the park and is the longest indoor skating trail in Canada. There is an interactive XD dark ride theatre called The Cortex, the Mini-mousse amusement park for toddlers, new rides called the Piston, the Centrale, the Hélix, the Convoyeur and the Pare-chocs, as well as the restored Force G, Condor, Carrousel and Electro rides.

High-tech additions include state-of-the-art lighting and sound, a giant screen, a stage for shows, and a large water fountain with lights.

“The new Méga Parc is an incredible attraction that will help redefine the entire customer experience at Galeries de la Capitale," said Bradley Jones, head of retail at Oxford Properties. "Retail is changing, and the mall is no longer simply just a place to shop but a destination to enjoy world-class experiences across fashion, food, and entertainment that can’t be recreated online."
