Dorsett Hospitality International has become one of the first hotel groups to add customer-facing robots to its service staff.

The two robots, both called V JR, have begun working at the Dorsett Shanghai hotel. Equipped with voice and a touch screen, the robots will answer enquires on hotel facilities and provide local information from dining and shopping locations to exercise facilities.

They will also be able to assist the hotel’s catering events staff by sending invitations and performing guest registration – and can be programmed to entertain during event breaks with song and dance performances.

Manufactured by Beijing-based tech company Tami Intelligence Technology, the robots will be part of Dorsett Shanghai’s guest service team for the next two years.

“They are fun, informative and interactive,” a spokesperson for Dorsett said. “They are are also really helpful and engaging.

“They are a delightful addition to Dorsett Shanghai and radiate Dorsett’s brand elements of being fun, playful, thoughtful, passionate, dynamic and flexible.”
