The Bannatyne Group is continuing with its aggressive investment programme, pumping £1m (US$1.3m, €1.1m) into the upgrade of its Mansfield health club.

Major work at the club in Nottinghamshire has included the installation of a mezzanine floor which incorporates two fitness studios and café bar.

The gym has a new functional training area, with the centrepiece being the Technogym Omnia Rig which allows users to workout together.

Smartphone-connected equipment has been installed so members can track their fitness through the Bannatyne app. Screens, which connect to Myzone heart rate-monitoring belts, enable gym goers to see in real-time how hard they are pushing themselves.

Speedflex resistance machines, which provide a high-intensity workout suitable for all fitness levels and abilities, are also available on site, as are Les Mills virtual classes.

Elsewhere, the spa has been redesigned, with the number of beds increasing from seven to 12, and the addition of a relaxation room featuring eight heated loungers and four water beds.

“We have made the most of the building’s potential to meet the growing demand for fitness classes and spa treatments, and enable us to offer a healthy menu in great surroundings in the new-look café bar,” said Martin Atkins, general manager at Bannatyne Health Club and Spa Mansfield.

“We offer members a holistic fitness and wellbeing experience, whether they want an intensive workout, gentle swim, relaxing spa treatment, or all three.”

Last month the group announced it would invest £1m into refurbishing its Humberston health club in North East Lincolnshire. In August, it expanded its spa portfolio with a £1m refurbishment of its Kingsford Park club in Colchester, Essex. It has also revamped clubs in Carlisle, Milton Keynes and Blackpool, among others, this year.
