Kohler Waters Spa at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews, Scotland has reopened following an extensive multi-million refurbishment. The 25,000sq ft (2,300sq m) spa is the only Kohler Waters Spa outside the US, and focuses on hydrotherapy and organic treatments, with signature wet treatment rooms and Vichy showers.

The new Kohler Waters Spa provides a ‘spa’ in the true meaning of the word, offering ‘Salus Per Aquum’ – ‘health through water’. Guests can indulge in the healing effects of water, from a hydrotherapy pool providing therapeutic bathing, a cold plunge pool and a refreshing ice fountain to experience showers featuring Kohler Real Rain.

The renovation has seen the addition of a new 20m (65.6ft) lap pool as part of the large health and fitness centre, as well as a gym area with cardio and resistance stations, a functional fitness space and a group exercise studio, with instructor-led classes along with virtual training.

There is also a steam room, a Finnish sauna and a rooftop garden with hot tub.

Designed by Sedley Place, the spa features 13 treatment rooms, including two couple’s rooms, as well as two wet treatment rooms offering Kohler bathing experiences.

Specialising in marine and aromatherapy treatments by Comfort Zone, Phytomer and Voya, therapies employ natural ingredients, including seaweed for its anti-inflammatory and soothing qualities, mineral-rich peat for its restorative and healing properties, and Himalayan salt to detoxify.

Margaret Dabbs treatments are on offer for manicures and pedicures. Guests can also expect highly customised treatments by the spa’s therapists, as part of the ‘custom time’ menu, where they will receive a personalised treatment programme.

Ahead of the opening, Kirsty MacCormick was named director of spa at the AA five-star hotel. MacCormick is founder of The Nail Yard, and was previously director of global spa development for skincare brand Elemental Herbology and corporate director of spa for Onyx Hospitality. She has also held spa director positions with several Mandarin Oriental locations in Asia and began her career with UK-based Champneys Health Resorts.

Bordering the renowned 17th Road Hole of the Old Course, the Old Course Hotel is situated in a prime location overlooking the famous links courses, the West Sands Beach and the beautiful Scottish coastline.

The hotel features 144 bedrooms, including 35 suites, some of which were designed by French designer Jacques Garcia. The hotel has also recently undergone a complete refurbishment of its bedrooms.

Kohler operates a total of four spas with a focus on hydrotherapy – the other three are in the US. The company opened its latest location in Green Bay, Wisconsin in July, which is the exclusive hotel of the Green Bay Packers' Titletown District.
