The Venus Cinema in Zielona Gora, in western Poland, is being renovated and transformed into a science centre and digital planetarium.

Work on the 1950s cinema buildings is well under way, with the Kepler Science Centre and Planetarium Venus expected to open in June 2015. The architects are Tomasz Cichocki and Pawel Golebiowski.

It’s believed the total investment is PLN26m (US$7m, £4.6m, €6.3m), with some funding coming from the European Union.

The 1,430sqm (15,390sq ft) complex will have a conference centre plus bookshop, and aims to host exhibitions and lectures on-site. Sky-Skan is installing the planetarium’s 10m (33ft) 3D dome. The auditorium will seat 370, while the planetarium will seat 75.
