Legoland Billund, in Denmark, is to get a new dark ride featuring "gamechanging" interactive technology.

Ninjago – The Ride will be the first attraction based around Triotech's Maestro technology. The same attraction will also be opening at Legoland California early next year.

Designed to respond to riders' hand and arm gestures, the technology is expected to help advance the narrative of a ride with a multitude of possibilities and offer an alternative to experiences which are typically tied to aiming and shooting concepts.

"Triotech's Maestro technology could be a gamechanger for the industry," said Christian Martin, the Canada-based ride makers head of marketing. "The technology has been developed by our R&D department over the past few years. It's very intuitive, which is important on a three-minute ride."

Guests instinctively know what to do, so they're not wasting time figuring out how to play the game, Martin said.

Martin says another advantage of the technology is that it opens up infinite story possibilities, as dark ride narratives won't need to be based around aiming and shooting.

"You can use your arm to mimic the gesture of throwing a snowball and see the snowball being thrown in the ride, for example," he said. "A story doesn't have to have a gun."

Triotech plans to demonstrate the technology at IAAPA.
