Industry gears up for Museum Tech one-day event
POSTED 18 Jan 2016 . BY Alice Davis
The latest technological innovations in museums and galleries will be presented and debated at the event
The latest technological innovations in museums and galleries will be presented and debated at a Museums Association event this week.

The event will be held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, UK on 21 January, but tickets for the seminar and conference day, dubbed Museum Tech, have already sold out.

Guest speakers will use case studies, Q&As and practical demonstrations to bring the latest technology to life within a museums context. Virtual reality, augmented reality, haptic technology, beacons and 3D printing are just a few of the topics under the microscope.

Seminars on the programme include Ancient Life Through a Brand New Lens, in which Celena Bretton, the digital media strategy manager at Natural History Museum, and Phil Harper, the head of digital at Atlantic Productions, will discuss the museum’s
fully immersive First Life virtual reality experience.

Peter Law of Flying Object, the developers behind Tate Sensorium, is giving a presentation on multi-sensory experiences, while Philip Miles and Ron Wiebe from Sheringham Museum are discussing Raspberry Pi and other open source software.

There will be hands-on workshops around 3D printing, iBeacons and augmented reality.
