UK maze designer, Adrian Fisher, has opened what he claims to be Europe’s first-ever horror-based maze attraction in Germany.
The Dorset-based designer collaborated with Merlin Entertainments to build a dark mirror-maze in Hamburg, entitled The Labyrinth of the Lost.
Fisher said: “We wanted to create the impression that visitors had been abandoned inside a nightmarish realm of seemingly endless corridors, arcades and cloisters.
“The mirrors enable us to play with people’s perceptions of space and generate a real sensation of trepidation which is heightened by the clever use of lighting, the living statues in authentic costumes throughout the passageways, eerie sound effects and grisly tableaux of medieval torture.”
Also this month, 30 Fisher-designed maize mazes will be appearing around the UK, followed by a further 20 mazes in the US later in 2004.
Other Fisher projects due to open this year include a new mirror maze at Noah’s Ark Waterpark in Wisconsin, a Bamboo Maze at Alnwick Water Gardens in Northumberland and a new hedge maze at Dreamworld in Australia.
Fisher has created over 400 mazes in 23 countries, which have been visited by over 30 million visitors since 1979.
