The 250m section of walkway has been installed for Aberdeenshire Council at the Balmedie Country Park which contains a large sand dune system. Public access to this is via a network of wooden boardwalks, but a common problem with these can be their short life span. Hence the council's decision to call in Fusion Marine, which provided the length of 1.5m wide slatted boardwalk to lead through the sand dunes to a viewing platform allowing disabled access. The brown-coloured walkway blends in with the environment and the flexibility of the plastic material means that its route can follow natural contours and bends. The sides of the boardwalk are slightly raised to help prevent sand blowing across it and also to prevent wheelchairs from accidentally falling off the edge. Additionally, each slat has a roughened top-surface to provide grip.
