New to the UK market is Green Screen, a cross between a fence and a hedge that can transform the way an outdoor space is used and revolutionise perimeter security.
The product is based on a 5mm, 1.20m long x 1.80m high or 1.20m long x 1.20m high weld mesh galvanised steel security screen that is hidden behind a shroud of foliage.
The plants forming the screen - there is a choice of evergreen ivy, deciduous beech or hornbeam - can be either rooted in a biodegradable coconut fibre trough that is set directly into the ground, or established in wooden troughs of various sizes which are then placed on the surface and can subsequently be moved as required. The degrading process takes between 1-2 years, depending on local conditions.
The consecutive Green Screen panels can be supported by most types of post systems, including wood, concrete and some metal types. Attachment of the panels to these posts is done with specially designed brackets.
Created by Dutch company, Mobilane, Green Screen is already seeing service at the Center Parcs company HQ, with more on order. Mark Waller, Chartered Landscape Architect with the company, says they will be used at the Longleat and Sherwood Forest Villages for providing privacy for ground floor rooms and for screening walkways, refuse container areas, car parks and outside eating areas.
Elsewhere, the spa resort at Nakenstorf in Germany has been clad with Green Screens in a move designed to enhance the site's appeal and convey a sense of quality.
