Furius new installation by Ridercam®

Ridercam's on-ride souvenir video system has been installed aboard Furius Baco, PortAventura's new roller coaster.

A total of 36 cameras are involved, 12 in each of the ride's three trains, the work being done in collaboration with manufacturers Intamin as part of the coaster's construction process.

Each video - which shows two riders at a time - is saved as an MPEGII file of about 80mb which is recorded at 720 x 576 pixels to provide high quality video and sound. Once back at the station, the file transfer for the whole train is done using a special wireless system in under a minute.

A personalised copy of the DVD of a particular ride is available for visitors to purchase within around three minutes. In addition to the rider element, theme park operators can include videos of their sponsors, a clip of the park itself or just about anything else.

At PortAventura the system is operated by Lagotronics on a revenue share basis, although sites are free to run the system themselves.

The park, on the southern Spanish coast to the west of Barcelona, has also ordered a Ridercam system for its Stampida wooden coaster, a contract which involves a total of 48 cameras on four trains.

Furius Baco - themed around the world of wine - was built by Intamin and designed by Ingenieur Buro Stengel, is almost 2789ft/ 850m in length and has a top speed of 83.9mph/135km/h. A 'wing rider' coaster, its ride capacity is 1500 visitors per hour.
