The wall, which will be jointly funded by Edinburgh Leisure and Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh & Lothians, will enable the EICA to host competitions to a World Cup standard. This has not been possible previously because the existing walls do not have enough over-hang to attract this level of competition. The new wall will be built in accordance with IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) international competition standards. A speed climbing section will be added to the left of the existing advanced wall and an advanced difficulty wall will be constructed to the right of this. In addition, the structure will provide even more climbing routes for beginners and intermediate climbers, a move which will increase the climbing capacity in what is already the world's largest indoor climbing arena. The structure is scheduled to open in Autumn this year.
