Hilton calls in Bally Total Fitness to keep guests healthy
POSTED 17 Feb 2005 . BY
Hilton Hotels is helping its guests to stay healthy while travelling with a raft of health and fitness initiatives.

The chain has signed an exclusive agreement with Bally Total Fitness to offer guests access to more than 5,000 personal trainers in major cities across North America.

Launching this month, the operator’s Personal Performance programme gives guests the opportunity to workout with a certified personal trainer at either a hotel gym, one of Bally’s 400 clubs or an appropriate outside area.

The programme also includes enhancements to its in-room exercise options with the debut of the Hilton Travel Fit Kit. Designed by Bally, the kit features Bally Total Fitness-branded products such as a yoga mat, elastic exercise bands, resistance tubing and hand weights.

The equipment is supplemented by instructions, developed by Bally’s head trainers, for basic exercises, which can be easily performed in the privacy of hotel rooms. Guests can workout alone with the Fit Kits or with a Bally trainer.

As well as this, guests at more than 100 Hilton Hotels can have a treadmill in their room for a nominal fee.

The move follows recent research commissioned by Hilton Hotels & Resorts. Conducted by the former director of NASA’s Fatigue Countermeasures Programme, the research measured the impact of travel on performance and productivity.

The Personal Performance Study found that those travellers who exercised performed 61 per cent better in alertness and reaction tests, than those who did not exercise while travelling.

“For many people, travel is a lifestyle,” said Hilton’s senior vice president of brand management and marketing, Jeffrey Diskin.

“This new relationship with Bally Total Fitness provides our guests with the additional motivation to maintain an exercise programme, start a new one or simply get the advice and guidance of a certified personal trainer.”
