Tourists choose London first
POSTED 13 Sep 2005 . BY
London’s tourism industry has received a boost with news that the capital has been voted Britain’s top visitor destination in the Condé Nast Traveller 2005 awards.

London last topped the poll as Britain’s favourite UK city in 2000. Last year, the city was placed 10th.

Of the nine categories, the capital scored highest for accommodation, culture, food and entertainment. London was also voted the third friendliest city in the UK, behind Cardiff and Newcastle, fifth in the safety category and eighth in terms of value for money.

However, the voting was completed in May, before the terrorist attacks on the city in July.

Visit London’s chief executive, James Bidwell, said: “This is fantastic news and confirms that London is the most exciting city for culture, entertainment and for generally enjoying yourself.

“Just this year, London has won the greatest prize of them all – the 2012 Olympics. This is another great award to be proud of.” Details: www.visitlondon.com
