Walt Disney World escapes Hurricane Wilma
POSTED 25 Oct 2005 . BY
Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, did not suffer any major damage from Hurricane Wilma yesterday (24 October).

All the Disney World theme parks were closed when the hurricane first came ashore.

Once it had passed, however, both the Magic Kingdom Park and the Epcot Park re-opened for the afternoon.

The following day, all the theme parks and waterparks were open as normal.

A spokesperson for Walt Disney World said: “As always, the safety of our guests and cast members is our top priority.

“We have an extensive hurricane plan and are prepared for a number of possible impacts that this type of weather could have on our property.”

The Florida Walt Disney World Resort comprises four theme parks – Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom – and two waterparks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.

Hurricane Wilma crossed lower south Florida, leaving the north, east and western areas unaffected.

The president and chief executive of Visit Florida, Bud Nocera, said: "It is important to remember that Florida has gained hands-on experience in preparing for and responding to the Atlantic hurricane season over the years.

"Our visitors safety is of utmost importance. Armed with modern technology and lessons learned, Florida is prepared to make a speedy recovery in those areas that were affected by the hurricane." Details: www.visitflorida.com
