Tranan rolls into Swedish water park
POSTED 10 Sep 2009 . BY Martin Nash
The Skara Sommarland water park in central southern Sweden, reported to be the largest in Scandinavia, has seen the opening of 'Tranan', the first of S&S Worldwide's 'Free Fly' longitudinally spinning coasters.

Free Fly is a concept where the riders are seated in an open car which is offset from a central track and suspended from its outside edges, with a special air suspension system designed to create the sensation of flying.

Offering a ride time of 64 seconds, Tranan has a track length of 370.4m (1,215ft), a lift height of 18.3m (60ft) and features four eight-passenger cars offering a capacity of up to 960 passengers per hour.

The cars have friction brakes, locked and monitored seat belt restraints and travel at 40mph with a maximum G-Force of 3.2.

Skara Sommarland opened in 1984 and attracts 350,000 visitors annually. It features water slides, a wave pool, white water courses, adventure pools, a Pirates Island and a water show. Elsewhere is Tivoli Land, with roundabouts, dodgems and roller coasters, and a Motor Stadium with go-karts.
