Dreamworld unveils Australia’s first FlowRider
POSTED 21 Jun 2006 . BY
Dreamworld theme park is unveiling its latest attraction this week, the first FlowRider surf system to be installed in Australia.

The FlowRider will offer beginners and experts alike the chance to surf and bodyboard at the Gold Coast theme park.

Dreamworld’s CEO, Stephen Gregg, said the FlowRider is Australia’s first self-contained, flexible and safe surfing environment. “The FlowRider is great news for board riders mixing the highs of surfing, skating, snowboarding bodyboarding and wakeboarding,” he said.

“In the near future, we’ll launch Flowboarding competitions that will pitch top board sports professionals from around the world against our regular riders right here at Dreamworld.”

“This is really a taste of things to come,” he added. “We’re about bringing a new generation of experiences to life which we hope will capture the Aussie culture like never before.”

Day guests can use the FlowRider at an additional cost to Dreamworld’s general admission price, paying AUS$5 for a 30-minute session shared with up to 15 other people, initially for lie-down Flowboarding only.

On Friday nights, lighting effects and music will be used for NightRider sessions when stand-up Flowboarding will be permitted at AUS$20 per hour for groups of up to 12 people at a time.

The facility also offers changing rooms, a food outlet, chillout bar and merchandise shop.

There are more than 40 FlowRiders installed around the world, supplied by WaveLoch. The concept uses sheet wave technology to create the perfect stationary wave over a trampoline-style base for safety. Specially-designed bodyboards and stand-up boards are used to protect the surface.

Construction is also currently underway on a new waterpark at Dreamworld. Details: www.flowrider.com.au
