Work on a 130m euro (£89.9m, US$165.7m), 370-hectare (914-acre) motor racing development in Reykjanesbae near Reykjavik, Iceland, is scheduled to begin later this year.
The project, which will also feature bars and restaurants, a cinema, a health club and a hotel, was designed by HOK Sport Architecture.
The scheme, called Iceland MotoPark, is the result of a collaboration between HOK, Icelandic property development firm Toppurinn, racetrack designer Clive Bowen, UK-based landscaper Lovejoy, British racing engineers and consultants WSR, event and overlay specialist Eventual Design, local engineers Verkfraeoistofa Njarovikur and the Reykjanesbae council.
Vilhjalmur Vihjalmsson, managing director of Toppurinn, said: “We know that there is considerable demand for more and improved motorsport in Iceland.
“In the same way that golf courses, theme parks and marinas all provide the central attraction to larger developments, the race destination at the Iceland MotoPark will provide the core attraction to the site.”
The development will feature a 4.2km racetrack, as well as a 1.2km kart circuit and road safety driver training facilities. Details: www.icelandmotopark.com
