Coe appointed chair of FIFA ethics committee
POSTED 18 Sep 2006 . BY
FIFA, the world governing body for football, has announced that Sebastian Coe will chair the organisation's new independent ethics committee.

The judicial body will take charge of hearings over possible transgressions of FIFA's rules and codes of practice by players, clubs and agents.

While the new committee will take over all future hearings, existing cases – including that of FIFA vice president Jack Warner, who has been linked with reselling tickets for the World Cup – will be dealt with by FIFA's disciplinary board.

Coe said: "I am delighted to have been selected for this important role.

"Inspiring young people into sport is a personal passion of mine. To do this, we must protect and promote the ethics and morals of sport for future generations."

Coe will hold the position in addition to his role as chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG).
