Leicester concert venue set for revamp
POSTED 09 Mar 2010 . BY Pete Hayman
Leicester's De Montfort Hall is set to undergo a major £200,000 revamp in a bid to improve the venue's public and backstage facilities ahead of its centenary year in 2013.

The concert hall, which has hosted acts including The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, has not undergone any refurbishment work since 1994 and is due to benefit from a raft of improvements.

Leicester City Council's (LCC) plans for the venue include new carpets in the front-of-house areas, Victoria Bar, Garden Suite and backstage dressing rooms, as well as redecorated bar areas and function suites.

The area in De Montfort Hall's gardens, which is used to host the main stage as part of the Summer Sundae Weekender, will benefit from work to improve drainage, as well as being levelled.

LCC cabinet lead for regeneration and transport Patrick Kitterick said: "This investment in the hall will breathe new life into the historic venue. De Montfort Hall hasn't had a facelift for 16 years and needs to be updated to maintain the well-loved facility."

Work is due to be completed by the autumn and the venue is set to stay open for the duration of the scheme.
