Opening date set for WhiteWater World
POSTED 15 Nov 2006 . BY
WhiteWater World, the new water park adjacent to Dreamworld theme park on Australia’s Gold Coast is set to open its doors on Friday 8 December.

Dreamworld chief executive officer Stephen Gregg said yesterday that construction was ahead of schedule and that the park would open its doors in time for the Australian school summer holiday period.

The four-hectare, AUS$60m (£24m, US$46m, 36m euro) park will boast a beach theme designed to celebrate Australia’s surfing culture and be “a shrine to our sun, sand and sea”.

It will be a separately-gated attraction to Dreamworld but there will be access from one to the other and a new Two Day World Pass is to be launched which includes entry to both parks.

“This is the first new Gold Coast theme park in 14 years and we have recognised an exceptional opportunity to enhance the Dreamworld business, deliver incremental profit and provide the Gold Coast destination with a unique tourism icon,” said Gregg.

“The opportunities for cross-marketing will give the new park a major head start, enabling it to leverage from the existing Dreamworld customer base, marketing spend and high profile.

“This is the most exciting thing to happen on the Gold Coast for many years and we are absolutely thrilled to be bringing a new generation of world class attractions never before seen in Australia.“

He added that responsible and sustainable water management practice was paramount in the park's construction and that the filtration system installed would save the equivalent of three Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of water every year.

A new series of curriculum-based student courses are also set to be implemented at WhiteWater World next year; offering primary and senior students a series of science, maths and water conservation programmes.

Rides will include the Super Tubes Hydrocoaster, the Bro, the Green Room, the Rip, the Temple of Huey, the Cave of Waves, Nickelodeon Pipeline Plunge and Wiggle Bay. Details: www.whitewaterworld.com.au
