Architects Foster + Partners are due to submit proposals to Dublin City Council to redevelop the Clarence Hotel in the city’s Temple Bar district.
If approved, the revamped 140-bedroom hotel – owned by Bono and the Edge from rock band U2 in partnership with property developer Paddy McKillen – will feature conferencing and banqueting facilities and a 1,360sq m (14,6640sq ft) spa with a 25m swimming pool on the lower ground floor.
The ground floor will accommodate restaurants, shops and bars and the top floor will feature a ‘sky room’ and viewing terrace.
The existing quayside facade will also be restored.
Norman Foster said: “This is an ambitious project – architecturally and structurally – with a confident yet sympathetic civic presence. It presents an exciting opportunity to regenerate Temple Bar’s river frontage, while also creating a bold new addition to Dublin’s skyline.”
