Broomstick rollercoaster for Swedish theme park
POSTED 20 Mar 2007 . BY Helen Patenall
The Grona Lund theme park in Sweden will feature a new ride when it reopens for the season on 27 April.

The SEK 55m (£4m, 5.9m euro, US$7.9m) rollercoaster – dubbed Kvasten (meaning ‘broomstick’) – will be located in-between the existing Spokhuset (‘Haunted House’) and Flygande Mattan (‘Flying Carpet’) attractions.

Visitors will board a hanging carriage at the station house – an old dilapidated mansion featuring an angry, water-spitting troll – and coast through a magically themed environment with their legs dangling in the air to give the impression of flying on a broomstick.

New technology by the ride supplier Vekoma will mean that young children can also enjoy the ride, as the safety height requirement is only 110cm.

CEO Ulf Larsson said: “It is unbelievably exciting to offer our visitors such an attraction, featuring hanging carriages, an advanced track and low height requirements, to make Kvasten the only one of its kind in the world.”
