Work begins on Corpus science centre
POSTED 05 Jun 2007 . BY Tom Walker
Construction work is underway on the new 24m euro (US$24m, £16m) Corpus science centre in Oegstgeest, the Netherlands.

Corpus will consists of a human figure that is partly embedded in a transparent building, and visitors will be able to take a trip through the inside of the human figure.

During the 60-minute trip, –which is designed as a dark ride on trains holding 20 people each – visitors will learn about all aspects of the human body – such as how the organs, the skeleton, the muscular system and the various internal processes work.

The ride’s permanent programmes exist of different “organ theatres” such as stomach, heart and nose, and of holographics and 3D-movies.

After the ride, which will take visitors to the top of the 6-storey high human form, the guests will return to the ground floor in their own time through the adjacent building.

The building will include a comprehensive medical info centre, in which visitors can interactively acquire in-depth knowledge about the human body.

Facilities at Corpus include a multi functional congress centre hosting up to 540 visitors. The construction of a hotel next to the current building is also under consideration.

Corpus is a private initiative, developed by Dutch company Reco Productions.
