Resort spa for South African farm
POSTED 19 Jun 2007 . BY Sarah Todd
A new resort spa has launched near the Pilanesburg National Game Park in South Africa. It forms a part of the Kedar Country Hotel, on a farm which once belonged to president Paul Kruger, in the North West Province.

Owned by the Recreation Africa group, the new facility is called Kedar Spa in the Country and cost US$986,000 (£500,000, 731,000 euro) to build.

Designed by architect Nico Wessels of the Wessels & Samuel company, the spa covers 4,300sq ft (400sq m) and has four twin treatment rooms, each with massage beds, facial chairs, whirlpool baths and showers.

All the rooms at the spa open onto a lake while two are suspended above the water for specialist therapies such as Indian head massage. Other facilities include a swimming pool.

The surrounding wetlands area, shaded by trees, provides a natural chill-out space.

Treatments use local product lines Eco Therapy and Wisdom of Africa and incorporate indigenous produce and ingredients such as muti mud, rooibos tea, jojoba oil, African potatoes, and marula.

Izanne Fagan has been appointed as spa director of the facility. Consultant Dr Theresa Chew – founder of Singapore-based spa company Expressions – worked with Recreation Africa during the pre-opening process.
