BHA introduces new Champions' Series
POSTED 24 Sep 2010 . BY Pete Hayman
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has announced that the UK's richest ever raceday will mark the climax of a new Champions' Series to launch in 2011.

Champions' Day - due to take place at Ascot on 15 October - will see the Champions' Stake moved from Newmarket and more than £3m of prize money on offer.

It forms part of a revamped fixture list for 2011, which will see a range of prominent meetings moved from weekdays to Saturdays in a bid to attract larger audiences. Three new Bank Holiday events also feature.

BHA chief executive Nic Coward said: "As well as British Champions' Series and British Champions' Day, we will be highlighting our Premier Fixtures at weekends in addition to the festivals which generate so much international and national interest.

"In creating the Fixture List, we have had to look hard at the interests of racecourses and their importance to local communities, and the present Levy returns, which have been forced down by betting operators exploiting every available loophole."
