New York's Met Museum to open seven days a week from July
POSTED 22 Mar 2013 . BY Jessica Tasman-Jones
New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art will open seven days a week from 1 July, following record-breaking attendance last year.

The Fifth Avenue property, which sits on the edge of Central Park, has been closed on Mondays since 1971, with the recent exception of the Holiday Mondays programme in which the museum opened on holidays that fell on Monday.

The museum will have a later opening time when the change comes into effect, opening at 10am instead of 9.30am.

At the 21 March announcement director and chief executive Thomas P. Campbell said: "Art is a seven-day-a-week passion, and we want the Met to be accessible whenever visitors have the urge to experience this great museum."

"Last year we had a record-breaking attendance of 6.28m visitors and yet were turning away many thousands more on Mondays, when we have traditionally been closed."
