Technogym lands Rio 2016 Olympics contract
POSTED 08 Sep 2014 . BY Jak Phillips
Technogym will fit the main training centre in Rio, as well as 15 warm up areas in various competition venues
The first ever Olympic Games to take place in South America will see all athletic preparation centre fitness equipment supplied by Technogym, after the Italian giant won an exclusive contract for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The deal is the company’s sixth Olympic partnership in a fruitful and long-running relationship which has seen Technogym supply every Olympic Games since Sydney 2000. The company was also the Athletes’ Village equipment supplier for the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In Rio, Technogym will provide a full range of equipment for the main training centre (approximately 2,000sq m, or 21,527sq ft) at the Olympic Village in Barra da Tijuca, open to all athletes taking part to the Games. It will also fit 15 centres with equipment-filled warm up areas specifically designed for the different disciplines at the competitions venues.

Technogym is expected to supply 1,000 pieces of equipment and install mywellness cloud digital platforms, enabling athletes to connect directly to the equipment with their individual training programme from a mobile device. Moreover, Technogym will provide a team of 50 professional athletic trainers to manage the preparation centres and support the athletes, as well as all related services (gym layout, installation and technical service).

“This important achievement represents a victory for the whole Technogym team and a strong reference on our product innovation and quality standards,” said Technogym president and founder Nerio Alessandri.

“Rio 2016 will also represent a unique social opportunity to promote wellness in Brazil and across the whole of Latin America, helping to get increasing numbers of people interested in physical exercise.”
