Muf Architecture/art has won a competition to design a new interactive gallery for the Science Museum, London.

From a shortlist of several renowned architectural firms, including David Kohn and Grimshaw, Muf has been chosen by the museum to design the £4m ($6.4m, €5m) new space.

Due to open in 2016, the new gallery aims to build on the success of the current ‘Launchpad’ children’s gallery and create a larger, more interactive, space to further engage visitors.

An internal plan of the gallery, aiming to increase visitor movement and interaction.

As part of the museum’s wider masterplan – which is transforming around a third of the sites gallery space – Muf’s new gallery will feature interactive exhibits and live event areas that allow people to explore scientific principles of the environment through observation and experimentation.

Karen Livingstone, director of masterplan at the Science Museum commented that, “Muf architecture/art impressed us with their collaborative approach, strong design and bold vision for the new gallery.”

The announcement of Muf’s collaboration with the Science Museum is part of a £60m ($96m, €75m) redevelopment plan for the famous South Kensington landmark. Both Coffey Architects and Wilkinson Eyre are currently working on the project.
