A total of 47 community sports projects across Scotland will share £2.4m from the Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund, the Scottish Government’s £10m pot to improve the country’s sports infrastructure.

The fund is a major part of the government’s legacy plans for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, held earlier this year.

Stewart Harris, CEO of Sportscotland said: “It is terrific news that a further 47 deserving ventures will benefit from the latest Active Places Fund tranche, which has already invested in more than 100 projects.

“We’re working closely with the Scottish Government to continue implementing the successful sporting legacy from Glasgow 2014 and, consequently, Scotland’s sporting system is the most sophisticated it has ever been.”

One of the projects to benefit from the latest round of funding was Crags Community Sports Centre in Dumbiedykes, Edinburgh, which is building a new city centre mountain bike, BMX and trail bike centre. Others include new paths on the Union Canal and a refurbished bothy in Glen Affric.
