Is Fitness First planning an invitation-only gym concept?

Fitness First is developing a new high-end gym concept that will see memberships available by invitation-only, according to reports.

With the chain embarking on a concerted push to conquer the Asian market, Singapore’s Straits Times has quoted a company source confirming that an exclusive invitation-only club targeted at well-heeled executives will launch in the sovereign city-state by the middle of this year. The report suggests that Singapore will be the test bed for the new concept, with the proposed site to occupy upper floors of CapitaGreen, a new office tower in Market Street. Details such as prices, membership criteria, and facilities, have yet to be finalised, the source added.

A Fitness First spokesperson told Health Club Management that the company was “not making any further comment at this stage.”

If the reported plans do come to fruition, the concept of a gym for VVIPs would give Fitness First a strong USP in what is fast-becoming a crowded Singapore gym concept. The invitation-only concept has had some success in New York, where top end clubs have offered exclusive workout spaces to the super-rich, but this would mark the first time that a UK-based chain has provided such a service.
