The Museum Park area in Miami, Florida, has been enjoying the upgrade treatment, thanks to new investment and not just a bit of attention from one of the world’s best known architects, Zaha Hadid.

The renowned London-based architect has designed a striking piece of contemporary art for the rejuvenated waterfront area - a 62-storey condominium with leisure facilities and exclusive, luxury 83 private apartments, One Thousand Museum.

The condo, which is due for completion in 2017, sits near the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, designed by architect Cesar Pelli, and alongside the recently redesigned Museum Park on Biscayne Bay, designed by New York’s Cooper, Robertson & Partners.

The neighbourhood is also getting two new museums to turn the area into a waterfront cultural centre. The Perez Art Museum Miami, a contemporary space for collecting and exhibiting international modern art, opened in in 2014, as did a new public plaza and a revamped Metromover station.

The Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science, or MiaSci, is currently under construction and set for completion in 2016. MiaSci will be located on the waterfront, east of Biscayne Boulevard between the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the American Airlines Arena. The three-storey museum will be set within public gardens, fountains, pools and natural Florida landscaping. Designed by Grimshaw, it will include a Gulf Stream aquarium, viewable from above or below, a planetarium, hands-on exhibits and interactive digital technology designed to inspire and engage visitors of all ages.

Hadid’s One Thousand Museum will be constructed of a concrete exoskeleton, with columns splaying out at the base. Its facilities will include a five star restaurant for residents and their guests and an indoor aquatic center on two-storeys with indoor swimming pool, outdoor sundeck, theatre room, fitness centre, cardio room, spa, billiard room and event space offering views of the Atlantic Ocean, Downtown Miami, and the Miami Beach skyline.
