The Four Seasons Lanai in Hawaii, US, has undergone a multi-million dollar, lobby-to-roof renovation, including redesigned guestrooms, newly refurbished lobbies, additional dining options and a renovated spa.

The hotel has been closed for renovations since June, and will reopen in February.

Las Vegas-based Todd Avery Lenahan of TAL Studios worked on the project, which was inspired by Hawaii’s diverse influences. The interiors include walls of teak and zebra wood edging artisan-produced Nepalese lokta paper, and floors of mahogany laid with wool, hand-woven area rugs.

The 11-treatment room spa features a clean, contemporary design, incorporating natural wood found throughout the islands and a slate reception desk. Rich wall textures are complemented by materials reflecting the hues and tones on Lanai, anchored by Hawaiian artwork.

The spa includes men’s and women’s red-cedar, dry-heat saunas; eucalyptus steamrooms and rainforest showers. Included at the beginning of all treatments is the Kala’au Pa’i spa ritual, which features a foot exfoliation and stimulation of key reflexology points using kala’au – guava sticks grown in the upcountry of Lana’i – to pa’i, or tap, the soles of the feet.

Signature treatments include a macadamia sugar polish using a body scrub of ground macadamia nuts grown on the Hawaiian islands and blended with Hawaiian cane sugar; a custom demi-blending perfume experience; and, Makaki’i Kalo, a taro honey mask.

The Ki Pola Ho ‘Olu, a cooling ti leaf wrap, needs 24 hours of planning, so that the therapist can single out six fresh ti leaves in the hotel’s Hawaiian garden, then ask the land for permission to pick them. A meditation ritual follows, before the leaves are washed and cleaned by hand, and then turned into an aromatic, lavender-infused wrap.

A collection of wellness services is also available, from private life coaching to meditation, and including techniques such as energy bodywork, craniosacral therapy and reiki.

The resort also features a fitness centre that includes an 800sq ft (74sq m) movement studio for yoga, meditation, joint mobility, Pilates and core strengthening classes.
