The Belmond Cadogan Hotel, infamously the former stomping ground of Victorian aesthete and provocateur Oscar Wilde, is set to re-open this winter.

Located in Knightsbridge, London, the Queen Anne-style, 54-bedroom hotel went down in history as the site of Oscar Wilde’s life-changing arrest, the result of a bitter feud between himself and the Marquess of Queensberry.

The Belmond, which includes such amenities as tennis courts, private gardens, and a 24-hour fitness suite and spa room, will feature refurbished interiors designed by GA Design International, as well as a new gourmet restaurant helmed by master chef Adam Handling.

The Belmond’s £28m (US$36m, €32m) renovation is part of an extensive re-development initiative which is being spearheaded by centuries-old property giant Cadogan Estates in collaboration with luxury leisure company Belmond.

Plans for the scheme were first announced in 2016.

On the development, Roeland Vos, president and CEO of Belmond Ltd. said: “We are confident Belmond Cadogan Hotel will become one of London’s foremost luxury hotels thanks to its incredible heritage, unrivalled location and contemporary classic design.”
