Nike's new programme to help young BAME leaders in sport
POSTED 15 Oct 2019 . BY Tom Walker
The initiative will result in 12 young BAME Londoners benefit from a 12-month package of support and mentoring
Sportswear giant Nike is launching a programme which will support, empower and enable young people from BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) backgrounds to become sports leaders in London.

Working with sports development charity Sported, the Future Leaders in Sport
scheme will see 12 inspirational young BAME Londoners benefit from a 12-month package of support, mentoring and personal development opportunities.

Targeting those aged between 16 and 30 – and who are currently involved in grassroots sport groups in the capital – the 12 will be selected from across the city and will be given the opportunity to develop and launch their own sport for change project in their community.

“This exciting new programme that celebrates and nurtures the talents of young, BAME Londoners," said Tom Burstow, deputy CEO at Sported.

"Nike has long championed the power of sport to advance equality in communities, so fits perfectly with Sported’s own work creating opportunities for under-represented groups.

"If you’re young BAME person living in London and have a brilliant idea on how you can harness the power of sport to promote equality, diversity and inclusion in your local community, we want you!"

• Nominations will be open to the general public. Those interested in being part of the programme are invited to submit their personal nomination via Sported’s website (www.sported.org.uk). Applications open on Tuesday 15 October 2019 and close on Thursday 31st October 2019.
