David Lloyd Clubs will develop a new programme in January 2021, designed to help people overcome the negative effects – both physical and mental – of the coronavirus lockdowns.

Called Team PB, the initiative will see psychologist Dr Jessamay Hibberd, nutritionist Jenna Hope and David Lloyd fitness experts work with six volunteers, who are dealing with various mental, physical and nutritional challenges brought on by the pandemic.

The team will work together to devise a full, holistic programme to help people not only get back to their normal selves but "go on to be their personal best".

Taking a holistic, ‘360 degree’ approach to health and fitness, the six-week programme will start with an assessment with Hibberd and Hope, designed to help people understand how they have been affected by the pandemic, what has been holding them back in the past and identify any barriers or bad habits.

Alongside a session with one of David Lloyd personal trainers, an in-depth and tailored support package will then be created.

Those taking part will have three one-to-one PT sessions a week for six weeks with regular Zoom meetings with Hibberd and Hope to ensure each attendee is equipped with the tools and support to help create healthy, life-long habits.

Once the first six members have completed their programme, a Guide To Living Healthy Throughout 2021 will be published, offering insights from those that took part and advice on how to live the healthiest and happiest way possible in 2021 and beyond.

Hibberd said: “The mind and body are intimately connected and so the two should go hand in hand with any transformational fitness programme.

"Exercise is great support for mental health, increasing self-esteem, energy levels and endorphins, improving body image, motivation, mental functioning and sleep, and boosting morale.

"Beating those ‘I can’t’ thoughts and seeing what your body is capable of is incredibly empowering.”

Team PB will begin operating in January.

Team PB nutritionist, Jenna Hope added: “The pandemic has highlighted the importance of optimising nutrition to support our wellbeing, but so many of us have struggled with our diet during lockdown, reaching for unhealthy snacks and drinks to combat feelings of boredom, anxiety and loneliness.”

Lucy Day, head of gym at David Lloyd Clubs, added: “2020 has really brought home to millions just how important health and wellbeing is.

"So many people have been negatively affected both physically and mentally, and we know that more people than ever will be wanting to invest in themselves and commit to being healthier and happier in the New Year.

"What sets our Team PB campaign apart however, is it takes a truly‘ 360’ approach to fitness and wellbeing, underpinned by expert psychological and nutritional support. It will identify any bad habits and motivational blocks, offering expert tailored advice throughout, which will give our team positive and sustainable results to improve their wellbeing for years to come.

“We hope to change the lives of these members, ensuring that they become the very best versions of themselves and in turn inspire others to go on their own journeys and make 2021 healthier and happier.”
