Fitness First goes Platinum
POSTED 09 Sep 2004 . BY
Fitness First has opened its flagship health club, Fitness First Platinum, in Sydney, Australia.

The 400th Fitness First club in the world, Fitness First Platinum is located on the 6th floor of Sydney’s exclusive shopping centre, the Westfield Bondi Junction Centre.

Almost AUS$5m (£2m) has been invested in the club, which covers 2,800sq m and offers spectacular views across Sydney Harbour.

In addition to the facilities found in the company’s standard offering, the Platinum club includes one of Australia’s largest cosmic cycle studios – catering for 50 bikes – as well as a relaxation area with monsoon showers, an ice machine, sauna, steamroom with aromatherapy, a solarium studio and a members’ lounge.

The creation of the new concept club was inspired by the location, said Fitness First’s national marketing manager, Christy Westrom, because all tenants at the Westfield centre were required to provide something extra in their offer as a condition of tenancy.

“This is what compelled us to open a Platinum club,” she said, “and we knew the shopping centre would attract the clientele that could support this type of high end club.”

The managing director of Fitness First Australia, Tony de Leede, said the club is the next generation of health and wellbeing.

“The Platinum club will raise the benchmark for health clubs around the world and provide members with the ultimate experience and escape while retaining the core elements requested by health enthusiasts throughout Australia,” he said.

Two membership packages are on offer at the facility: Platinum membership gives unlimited access to the club and other Fitness First sites throughout the world, while Black Label membership, available for only 500 members, includes a personalised locker with complimentary laundry and towel service, concierge greeting, free use of the solarium, private sun deck and free personal training sessions.

Approximately 4,000 members have already signed up to the club, which opened at the beginning of September.

The company expects to attract 8,000 members to the facility and eventually open a Platinum club in every major city in Australia.
