POSTED 21 Oct 2014 . BY Tom Anstey
Motiongate is scheduled to open in 2016
Motiongate Dubai – part of the AED10bn (US$2.7bn, €2.1bn, £1.7bn) mega resort currently under development – will include a Sony Pictures Studio and a Smurfs Zone as part of the Hollywood-inspired theme park.

Meeras Holding, the company behind the project, revealed that the Sony Pictures Studio section of the park will contain 12 themed attractions inspired by popular Sony Pictures theatrical releases, including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Ghostbusters, The Green Hornet, and Zombieland, in addition to hosting The Smurfs in a separate, dedicated zone.

“We welcome Sony Pictures’ and IMPS’s presence at Motiongate Dubai,” said Raed Al Nuaimi, CEO of Dubai Parks and Resorts. “With their legacy of excellence in entertaining audiences, we are confident Sony Pictures and the Smurfs Zone will add an exhilarating new dimension to the Middle East’s entertainment landscape.”

Featuring four zones, inclusive of the Sony Pictures Studio and Smurfs Zone, Motiongate Dubai is part of the phase one development of Meeras’ mega resort plan that will see the arrival of Legoland Dubai, Motiongate Dubai and Bollywood Parks Dubai. In addition to theme park developments, a Riverpark, grand entrance plaza and a family-themed hotel are all scheduled for completion in late 2016.
