Spanish wellness destination SHA Wellness Clinic has recently added a bioenergetic unit to its medi-spa offerings. The unit is a high-tech system for evaluating and improving health, based on human energy, and was developed in-house by Dr Ana Maria Oliva, a biomedical engineer.

The unit aims to use technology to assess imbalances and improve self-regulation mechanisms through bioenergy, a bridge between Oriental and Western medicines.

It analyses a person’s overall psycho-physiological state, as well as the state of different parts of the body and the causes of the imbalances, which could be internal, external, physical or emotional.

“Energy is invisible, but it is measurable,” Dr Oliva told Spa Opportunities. “Energy shows us the psycho-emotional and physiological structures and their relations. We can also test what is the best therapeutic approach at this moment for each person.”

The unit, which was launched in August, has been used for more than 400 consultations so far, said Oliva.

“Guests say it is an amazing experience,” she said. “They can realise how the electromagnetic field is talking about their lives and their challenges; they receive different suggestions to improve their health. We have also obtained very good therapeutical results, verified with technologies.”

Oliva said SHA decided to implement the bioenergetic unit because it allows the clinic to go one step further in helping guests achieve health and wellbeing.

“Health is not only a matter of good biochemical levels – also energy plays an important role in it,” she said. “Energy health is key in preventative medicine, and also in finding the real causations that are underlying diseases.”

SHA added a new medical and wellness area in late 2014, doubling the size of its clinic. It also recently announced the appointment of Pedro Catarino as director of wellness.
