Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee chair leaves for ministerial post
POSTED 19 Jul 2016 . BY Matthew Campelli
Jesse Norman MP is the chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee
Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee is on the hunt for a new chair to replace Jesse Norman, who was handed a ministerial post by Theresa May.

Hereford South and Herefordshire MP Norman was promoted to parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as part of sweeping cabinet changes and departmental restructures following May’s appointment as prime minister last week.

As a result he has stepped down as chair of the committee – which is currently presiding over inquiries relating to sports stadia accessibility, homophobia in sport, match-fixing in tennis, the future of FIFA and blood doping in athletics.

Norman took over as chair from John Whittingdale in May 2015 when the latter was appointed as culture secretary, although he has been subsequently replaced by the new prime minister as part of the aforementioned reshuffle.

A new chair for the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee is not expected to be unveiled until September or October 2016.
