HCM understands a decision on reopening dates for gyms and also for spas will be made today at a one-off government press briefing by culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, at 5.00pm.

"We are going to reopen gyms as soon as we can do it in a COVID-19-secure way and I think that the date for reopening gyms at the moment, if we can do it, is in just a couple of weeks’ time," Johnson said.

A number of gym operators are concerned that local lockdowns could come into effect in some areas of the UK before gyms reopen, further delaying the full restarting of the industry –  especially in major urban areas.
  Industry responds as UK parliament mocks wellness and beauty sector


The UK spa, beauty and wellness industry is in uproar following a recent Prime Minister’s Question time where the urgent matter of reopening the sector reduced MPs to laughter.
